Today in WMH: Like a Good Wine, Bruckner His Takes Time

5/18 Today in Weird Music History: 1885.  Anton Bruckner completes the final version of his String Quintet in F major.  It took him 24 years to finish the project.  Written for the Hellmesberger Quartet. violinist Joseph Hellmesberger asked Bruckner way back in 1861 to write a piece for his ensemble.  As one of my conducting teachers once wisely said, “Bruckner is never to be rushed!”
