Today in WMH: FBI Declares “Louie Louie” Officially Unintelligible.

5/17 Today in Weird Music History: 1965.  In yet another a waste of governmental resources, the FBI concluded that the popular song, Louie, Louie was “unintelligible at any speed.”  The investigation was nearly a 2-year effort that involved interviewing the song writer, record producers and performers, and sending a recording to the FBI Lab to be played at various speeds to search for hidden nasty words.  All of this started, by the way, by a rumor that the song was pornographic…

Also today in WMH: 1978. A Little Silver Disc Changes the Industry.  Phillips makes a bold announcement of the invention of the Compact Disc.  Sony would demonstrate and commercialize the medium in 1982.  30 years later, the technology is on its way out thanks to digital storage and streaming.  Now, what to do with all those jewel cases?
