5/6 Today in Weird Music History: 1897.   Ruggero Leoncavallo’s opera La Bohème opens in Venice at Teatro la Fenice.  It never catches on like the “other” La Bohème—the one by Giacomo Puccini which opened 15 months earlier.  Actually, none of his operas would last as long as his first, the great one-act opera, Pagliacci, written in 1892.
