4/19 Today in Weird Music History: 1912.  Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto is performed in London…sung in Yiddish.  “Caro nome del mio cor, becomes Oisgekrizt in main hartz.”  While there is little doubt that translations are inferior to the original, it’s proof that the stories and music transcend the boundaries, and limitations, of language.
