2/9 Today in Weird Music History: 1967 Charlotte Moorman, known as the “topless cellist” is arrested after a performance of Nam Jume Paik’s Opera Sextronique.  The seminude performance and incident which provided her nickname also led to other avant garde performances including Paik’s TV Bra for Living Sculpture in 1969. Edgard Varese dubbed her “The Jeanne d’Arc of New Music.” For more information on her important contributions to the New York avant garde scene, see: http://www.nytimes.com/1991/11/09/arts/charlotte-moorman-58-is-dead-a-cellist-in-avant-garde-works.html
