Today in WMH: Lame Composer Excuses

2/7 Today in Weird Music History. While visiting Hollywood in 1928, French composer Maurice Ravel cancels a lunch date with Charlie Chaplin with the excuse: “I didn’t think it would be much fun for either of us.”  Also today in 1935, violinist/composer Fritz Kreisler admits to trying to dupe the public by passing off his own compositions as lost works by famous composers.  His defense: “I found it impudent and tactless to repeat my name endlessly on programs.”
