1/24 Today in Weird Music History: 1967. Aretha Franklin Becomes Aretha Franklin!

Soul singer Aretha Franklin finds her style after her new label, Atlantic Records, sends her to Muscle Shoals, Alabama.  Prior to this date, she had a lukewarm career with Columbia Records, who tried to market her as a black version of Doris Day.  The sessions at Muscle Shoals Recording Studio helped her reconnect with her gospel roots and give us the sound that is unmistakably Aretha!  For more: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/aretha-franklin39s-career-is-reborn
