1/23 Today in Weird Music History: 1922. Maestro Arthur Nikisch dies in Leipzig. Known as “The Magician, ” Nikisch was the first maestro to use the then magical technologies of recordings and movies. He was both the first conductor to record a complete symphony and the first major conductor to be captured in a motion picture.
